The U11s kicked off their Season in the non competitive football and despite taking a 2 goal lead through Liam OConnell, left with a draw for their efforts.
These players will be trying hard for the Season and those to shine today were Mathew ODonovan Quane, Cathal Daffy and Jamie McMahon. A good effort from the U12 , but they were just not able to deal with a Shelbourne side that were 3 up, before Luke McSweeney scored for us. Thomas Hickey score our second but Shelbourne ran out easy winners. Those to shine were Jack Flannagan, Jamie McMahon and Aidan Kearney.
The U12s kick off our schoolboy Season this evening Friday 04th September when they entertain Shelbourne in Knockalsiheen. 6.30 kick off.
On Saturday the U11s play Ballynanty Rovers in Shelbourne Park at 10.30. Overall this was a disappointing effort from us, as we did not play anywhere near our ability. We started well and had a few chances but yet again we allowed our opponents to score two soft goals. It was an uphill battle after that and we just did not get there. Holycross made it 3,nil before John Ryan scored his first goal for the club. Those to try were Shane Treacy, Tom Kennedy and Aaron Walsh.
We will need to play at our very best from here on in. The final result of 6,3 to us, was a deserved result but we got off to the worse possible start conceding a penalty after just 5 minutes to Hyde Rangers. Pa ONeill, quickly levelled matters but yet again poor defending saw us go behind. A great run by Mike Worthy saw us level again after 25 minutes. On the stroke of half time Steve McDermott had us in front for the first time. Hyde were level after 5 minutes of the second half. When we were awarded a penalty on 20 minutes, Mike Worthy score to put us in front again. From there on we were well on top and Steve McDermott put us further ahead before setting up Derek Moloney. Best were Aaron Walsh, Will Biranne, Donal Walker and Sean Naughton.
Our next game is away to Holycross B on Thursday. 6.30 Kick Off A poor first half display, cost us in this game. We were lackluster as the home side got 2 quick goals before the half time whistle. They added a third shortly after the restart. We began to get into the game and Shane OBrien gave us hope when he scored with a header from 12 yards. Mike Worthy made it 3,2 minutes later and from there to the finish we pushed hard and were unable to get the all important third. Best were James ONeill, Donal Walker, Aaron Walsh.
Dromore Celtic were the visitors to Knockalisheen on Saturday evening and in a in a game where the ref again was the centre of attraction, with a number of poor decisions that frustrated everyone present, we ran out winners on a 5,2 scoreline. Mike Worthy opened the scoring but Dromore were level when we failed to clear a free kick. Tom Kennedy put us in front with a great free kick. In the second half, Dromore levelled with another og. Will Birrane was dismissed after tripping in the box, which was ruled as diving. When Mike Worthy was fouled in the area, Tom Kennedy scored from the spot. Subs Colin Bennis and Pa ONeill rounded off the scoring as Dromore faded. Best were Paul Kelly, James ONeill with a number of great saves and Steve McDermott.
Our next game is away to Croom United B on Wednesay, kick-off 6.30 in Croom This was a tough opening game of the new Season. Thomas Kennedy scored from the spot after 20 minutes, when Mike Worthy was upended. This was to be costly as he later had to come off with a damaged shoulder. Will Birrane made it 2,nil on the half hour with a free from 30 yards. The refereeing did not help this game in any way and St Pats were back in the game with less than 10 minutes to go when they scored from a penalty. While it was a great opening result, Tom Kennedy with a pulled hamstring and Will Birrane an ankle injury saw us having t make a number of changes including positional changes. Best were Aaron Walsh, Bob Collins, Paul Kelly and Shane Treacy.
