2013 U16 League Cup Final
Parkville win the U16 League Cup Final with an extra time win over neighbours Coonagh United.
In a very tight game chances were few and far between. In the first half Mike Kelly went closest and when Dylan Considine saw his headed effort drift just wide. Coonagh went upfield and from a seemingly offside position shot wide. it should have been a warning as with 10 minutes left Coonagh broke again and scored the opener. With 5 minutes to go captain Cian Killeen got himself sent off and things did not look good. But in the final minuted an Eric McNamara long throw was headed home at the near post by Shane Cope. In extra time we got a dream start when Dylan Considine bust into the box and gave the Coonagh keeper no chance with a low shot at the near post. on 5 minutes Eric McNamar scored with a free kick from about 25 yards. We had to withstand pressure from the Coonagh attack but held out for the win. Best were Luke Butler, Darragh Finucane and Shane Cronin.
The 16s were attempting to collect their second Cup in a week on Sunday when they met Glenview Rovers in the U16 Division One Cup Final in UL. On this occasion it was the strong wind blowing down field that decided the game as Glenview playing with the wind at their backs took a 2 goal lead into the break. Despite being well on top for most of the game Parkville could not break through the Glenview defemce who despite conceding a 35 yard goal from Eric McNamara, packed their defence to take the Cup. Overall the 16s must be congratulated on giving the Club some cheer this season, but poor officiaiting and our own lack of control cost us on this occasion.
Again congratulations to all the players, Pat, Niall and Darren for their efforts this season.
